三重県松阪市。松坂木綿の産地に、時を織り続ける工場があります。
御絲織物株式会社。
工場に響くのは、国内でも数少ない小幅のシャトル織機の音。
高速で大量に織る現代の機械とは異なり、ゆっくりと往復する杼（ひ）が、一本一本の糸を確かに打ち込んでいきます。
効率よりも、風合いを。速度よりも、質感を。
その選択自体が、ものづくりへの姿勢を物語っています。
小幅で織られた生地は、端に“耳”が残ります。それは、織物としての誇りであり、大量生産では得られない表情です。
さらに工場内では、藍のかせ染めも行われています。
糸束を藍に浸し、空気に触れさせ、時間を重ねながら色を深めていく。
その工程は静かですが、決して緩やかではありません。
一瞬の判断、わずかな温度差、染まり具合の見極め。
すべてが、経験と集中力の積み重ねです。
御絲織物株式会社は、松坂木綿の伝統を受け継ぎながら、伊勢神宮への奉納も行っています。
私たちレイズラボは、「デザインを形にする」ことを使命にしています。
しかしその前提にあるのは、確かな素材と、誠実な工程です。
今回の訪問で改めて感じたのは、“速さ”ではなく“深さ”が価値を生むということ。
わびさびとは、装飾を削ぎ落とした後に残る精度のこと。
日本のものづくりは、主張するのではなく、積み重ねます。
この映像に映っているのは、静寂ではなく、張り詰めた余白の中にある集中力です。
Woven Discipline
— Visiting Miitoori Textile, Home of Matsusaka Cotton —
In Matsusaka, Mie Prefecture —the historic birthplace of Matsusaka cotton —there is a textile mill where time is not rushed,but refined.
Miitoori Textile continues to weave usingone of the few remaining narrow-width shuttle looms in Japan.
While modern looms prioritize speed and volume,the shuttle loom moves deliberately —back and forth —placing each thread with intention.
It does not chase efficiency.It preserves texture.It protects character.
Fabric woven on a narrow shuttle loom carries its selvedge —a visible edge that represents integrity,a signature impossible to imitate in mass production.
Inside the same facility,indigo hank dyeing is performed by hand.
Bundles of yarn are immersed in natural indigo,lifted into the air,oxidized,and dipped again.
Color deepens through repetition and patience.What appears minimal is, in truth, disciplined intensity.
Miitoori Textile also weaves clothoffered to Ise Grand Shrine —one of Japan’s most sacred institutions.
